After UFR: The Offense
starts at 1:00
Okay fine let's talk about Wilton Speight. We are getting sick of talking about Speight. He only had four incompletes in the charting, but they were again bad incompletes of the kind that sail into bad things territory. The OL is beefy on the right side and still learning; love that Cole doesn’t chase bad blocks. Zentry! has some route chops.
After UFR: The Defense
starts at 27:29
Okay fine let's talk about Mike McCray. He doesn’t seem to zone much and was not getting depth—that’s weird out of a 5th year guy. The secondary only busted a couple of times and should have been saved by the DL. Hayden Moore made a perfect throw while under duress on one of these. Brandon Watson was getting straight-up tackled so Michigan went to zone. Kinnel’s heroic tackle was amazing, his one miss was not so necessary.
Hoops & Hockey Recruiting
starts at 37:54
Michigan will get an official visit from the top overall player in the country, RJ Barrett, but that’s not going to happen. Ignas Brazdeikis we feel good about. Beilein looking to take a just-a-shooter in this class. Missed a couple of elite wings so Iggy is a big deal. Hockey: Mel is recruiting at prime Red level. Is more good news on the way?
Air Force Preview
starts at 53:31
They will cut you and cut you and run run run run until the pass comes and it goes for long. Their main wingback Tim “Unfortunately Named” McVey and their quarterback are back and excellent; they turned over everybody else except the middle linebacker. Michigan hopefully won’t play with a single high safety again. Are they really gonna man up Donovan Peoples-Jones? This feels like a big game for Grant Perry.

MUSIC:
YouTube changed up their policies so we're trying to stay away from copyrighted music on live broadcasts. If you or a friend made some good tunes and don't have a label out scrubbing for them we'd be happy to feature you. This week it's Greenland, who've been defunct for so long they probably barely remember they were in this band:
- “Rip Van Winkle”—Greenland
- “The Way It Is"—Greenland
- “Captain Jack”—same

WTKA Roundtable: The John Navarre of WTKA Roundtables
Thursday Sep 14, 2017
Thursday Sep 14, 2017
Things discussed:
- Piped in music: Let the band play!
- Speight: It’s a mental physical correctable mistake. Expect a rollercoaster ride again.
- UFR, he wasn’t that bad. It’s too late; he’s John Navarre to the fanbase. He’s already better than John Navarre.
- Ed isn’t going to question Harbaugh; is going to question Shaw
- Is Michigan trying to get out of the home-and-home with Washington?
- Harbaugh’s Moe Wagner disease: refs just don’t like overzealous puppies? This game was really bad—and lopsided bad—from a crew who’s usually alright.
- Kinnel is pronounced Kinnel like Kinnel not Kinnel also his +3 tackle was a star safety’s play.
- What about Air Force? Score more than 22.
- What’s up with JT Barrett? His OL sucks. Craig says Ohio State is disqualified from the Final 4.

1 hour 36 minutes
Chase Winovich is wearing Eric Upchurch’s hat. [Eric Upchurch]
We recorded this podcast from the Michigan Room of the Residence Inn Ann Arbor Downtown. There are 13 rooms, one for every Big Ten team! Also it’s a new building owned and operated by Michigan (not Ohio State) people.

---------------------------------
1. Offense
starts at 1:00
We know about Speight. Need more Harbaugh Speight, less Borges. Ty Isaac in the open field is a linebacker-sized man running faster than defensive backs. Love seeing Mason Cole back at left tackle. Grant Perry is the star of the receivers.
2. Defense
starts at 21:45
Tunnel screens are still bad. McCray versus athletic RB in space still bad. Defense is not utterly perfect is still bad, a thing. The wheel route was McCray going under a crossing route—there were some huge offensive picks they missed but that wasn't one. Winovich doesn’t have a true backup. Introducing: The Don Brown Hat Trick. #Swatson had a great game.
3. Special Teams & Game Theory
starts at 44:36
Using a safety as a punt returner: Grant Perry was fine. Go for it on 4th and half a yard, man! Football gods won’t let you punt on 4th and 2 down two scores with six minutes left.
4. Around the Big Ten with Jamie Mac
starts at 56:31
I think they meant that song to be “Oklahoma!” but nobody from MGoBlog was willing to get deep enough into a Rogers & Hammerstein play to get it right. EMU is still 0-58 against Power 5 teams after beating Rutgers, but this is good enough to get Brian to pronounce their names. Make JT Barrett beat you. Brian forces everyone to talk about Minnesota. Purdue is already TECMO BOWL.

After UFR: The Defense
starts at 1:00
So THAT’S how a 3-3-5 works. That play did not go well for Brandon Powell—Metellus can cover. Were we too positive about Devin Bush? About everybody? Were there any busts in the secondary? Is there literally anything to complain about?
After UFR: The Offense
starts at 18:00
Wilton was suboptimal but fine—you can tell why he’s starting over O’Korn. Nolan Ulizio got worked by the number one guy out of Wyoming. Important that the backs look good because you lost Ty Wheatley. Chris Evans for Michigan 2040!
Gimmicky Top Five: Places to Go on Gameday
starts at 37:54
How many 50-yard field goals per game would it take to get Ace to carve the Wild Thing into his hair? Come for the overpriced food, stay for the red hot beer takes.
Cincinnati Preview
starts at 53:31
It’s getting funky in here. So this is not a very good team. They have some good receivers and a decent defensive line. Their linebackers were decimated, the defensive backs bust spectacularly. What’s Alex Hornibrook with a less strong arm? They’ll dink ‘n dunk; Michigan should break some big plays. Kevin?

WTKA Roundtable: It Was 75-2 After All
Friday Sep 08, 2017
Friday Sep 08, 2017
Things discussed:
- Guys who picked 31-17 admit it was closer to 75-2 than 33-17. The offense moving the ball in particular was wonderful.
- Don’t get too excited: Florida’s coaching is atrocious.
- The 3-3-5 created holes for linebackers and confused Florida by not letting them know where the fourth DL is going to be (example: first play of the 4th Q).
- Michigan’s personnel is really well-suited to this.
- Amazing that the 3-3-5 plans never escaped the submarine.
- Around the nation: Ohio State’s dudes are just guys, JK Dobbins just took Mike Weber’s job.
- Purdue! Brohm is the most Tilleresque play they could have made and that’s what they should do. Craig thinks the season got harder.
- Predictions for Cincy: 75-2.
- “You can go to a Michigan football event and see up on a large screen an overweight naked man on top of a shark.”

MGoPodcast 9.1: And the Band Played Jaws
Tuesday Sep 05, 2017
Tuesday Sep 05, 2017
1 hour and 37 minutes
[original, less sharky photo by Chris Cook]
[UPDATE: As multiple people pointed out it was Florida’s band that played Jaws. Apparently this is a usual thing, we assume because their head coach…]
We recorded this podcast from the Michigan Room of the Residence Inn Ann Arbor Downtown. Then the guys jetted before the staff brought out the evening (M-W-F) guest tray with wine and beer and some seriously amazing buffalo ranch chicken dip & chips by Chef Alisa.
Townies ignore this but I live out in the Detroit burbs and the best date night idea I’ve had yet was to book Friday night at Res Inn, leave the car in the structure next door, and go discovering all the things that weren’t there when I was. Like who moved Blimpy Burger right in the path of our walk stumble home?

---------------------------------
1. Offense
[starts at 1:00]
Bounce, bounce bounce actually works because Florida forgot to have edge protection. Long runs on 3rd and long, Kugler grading well, Speight and his Navarrish performance, Fades to Black, Best Possible Grant Perry, Michigan fans have Opinions on TE blocking.
2. Defense
[starts at 27:58]
3-3-5 for the win! The Casteel defense run correctly looks thusly. The defense looked excellent (11/53 plays were TFLs, QED). A wild Gil appears. Devin Bush man he will put his face in places. M’s “slow” DEs were Peppers’ing screens. Three interchangeable safeties makes it hard to motion them out of their fits.
3. Special Teams & Feelings Ball
[starts at 46:14]
Special Things: Quinn Nordin for Heisman campaign lasts three quarters, DPJ nearly broke two, Hudson was one of the kick returners and we are all about this new quasi-linebacker returner tradition, though this one is way more violent. Blocked punt contributed to aaaah part of the afternoon. Ambry shows up Brian Cook.
Feelings: Started iffy, turned bad for a moment, then went in the Harbaugh direction. Good job refraining on burning too many redshirts. Most who came in late were guys who are going to contribute extensively this year. Question Stueber but it’s a good schedule to develop a guy before PSU; he and St-Juste will either develop or develop hangnails. Florida reminds us of Hoke: The Sludgefart Years.
4. Around the Big Ten with Jamie Mac
[starts at 1:02:20]
Wes Brown’s genius at Maryland is fun and Piggy—Vegas had them way underrated. Purdue barely loses to Louisville(!) in a ref jobbing. Illinois was a Malik and a Dudek away from losing to a MAC team. MSU was lucky not to fall to a worse MAC team while emptying out the drawer. Rutgers managed to play a quarter of football-like substance, then launched the dumb punt of the young season, and supplied a generation’s worth of Jersey article images with its hot tub. Minnesota’s OL is not helping its help-needing QBs. Iowa played an Iowa game. Indiana played an Indiana classic. J.K. Dobbins just Wally Pipp’d Mike Weber. Nebraska comes in late to fulfill conference’s Big Tennn! quota.

Friday Sep 01, 2017
Friday Sep 01, 2017
GIS “gatorshark”
Things discussed:
-
Florida: How do you lose 12% of your roster to credit card fraud?
-
This has been a really yappy offseason for Florida, and it’s been mostly coming from the top.
-
Media-Harbaugh Industrial Complex
-
More Florida: did the Muschamp D graduate or are these guys talented enough to remain a dangerous defense fettered to an Austrian-Hungarian offense?
-
Sam is now more concerned about the secondary than the offensive line. Experience matters and Brown is going to make them run a complicated system. Don’t need to grow up until Game 7.
-
Brian’s yard has no grass.
-
More Florida: their OTs are dinged up too. That’s bad for you.
-
Stupid Dallas game because they can jack up the ticket prices and don’t have to share with the conference. It’s a bad reason. But this was scrounging after ND screwed them; let’s never do this again.
-
Sam shares how prepared M is for Air Force this time.

Replace Braden and Kalis with Onwenu and Kugler and you’re not losing much; Mags to Ulizio/whomever is a downgrade. The sophomores are better sophomores than we’ve seen in a long time.

Try really hard not to say “Sharkfuckers” a hundred times. Really wanted Zaire to win that job—starting a redshirt freshman is not optimal.
Gimmicky Top Five New Prospectin’ Names

Friday Aug 25, 2017
Friday Aug 25, 2017
[Bryan Fuller]
Things discussed:
- Alcohol sales: Commerce is annoying. People in the suites can get up and get a beer without annoying Brian. Could you bring a keg to Michigan Stadium in the day?
- Florida really humped the shark: Three-headed quarterback situation can’t be good news for them. Going with Luke Del Rio is really not good news, especially for Zaire.
- The secondary has us concerned, especially after the starters. Sam suggests the trepidation might be the aliens at receiver making our guys look bad. Lavert Hill has come on.
- Keith Washington: coaches asked him to develop some safety skills and that caused it—weird. Michigan is now thin at corner: JKP is probably going to have to move.
- James Hudson to offensive tackle: good news for DL depth, bad news for OTs. It may not stick—this stuff happens in a Harbaugh program.
- The defense is the defense: Don Brown will help the kids out by calling up good doctor blitz. Lost guys but gained experience in the system.
- Having fun with the different types of players they’ve got. Michigan will spread it out to use the catching abilities of Evans, Hammering Panda, and the receivers and tight ends. Pep effect!

The Previews
FLORIDA (starts at 1:00) Leaning on the defense and that’s like ours: talented and really young. We’ll take Michigan’s coaching over McElwain and co. any day of the week, especially Shark Week.
CINCINNATI (starts at 4:40) They lost a lot after their last coach was mailing it in. Ohio State’s punishment for Jim Tressel was probably a good hire but it’s too early for that to bear fruit.
AIR FORCE (starts at 5:50) Quarterback and running back are good. They’re Air Force (thanks Dave Brandon!) so they’ll cut the hell out of our linemen. We like Don Brown in this game better than Michigan’s post-Alabama single-high approach last time.
@PURDUE (starts at 8:00) Best coaching improvement in the country. They have GRIII’s little brother and that’s about it for talent.
MICHIGAN STATE (starts at 9:12) They were an old team with 13 unexpected departures. What’s the same? LJ Scott, some OLBs, some DTs, and 1 or 2 guys named Allen. What’s better? No McDowell.
@INDIANA (starts at 13:25) Why did you release Kevin Wilson if Ohio State was going to scoop him up? Now DeBord is the OC. Tom Allen, the former DC promoted to HC has a Don Brown-ish defense.
@PENN STATE (starts at (16:55) If you like long bombs and “tuddies” you’ll like this team. They’re…overrated? Rex Grossman-ing worked for them. Barkley and McSorley are good and good for college. Cothran & Cothren is a good law firm name.
RUTGERS (starts at 21:47) The Friday night before this game we’re going to have a charity event at that same place on Hoover where the top donors get to pick which highly accurate former Michigan team they want to play on NCAA 2014 in our 2nd ever Bo Bowl. Ace is the defending champion so he gets to play his 2006s again. Details when we’ve got it all put together. Saturday is Homecoming and Michigan will win.
MINNESOTA (starts at 21:48) They lost their great secondary, got some running backs, really no quarterbacks. Probably not yet very good, but Fleck will recruit his way into competition. Is Fleck good or just a good recruiter who Corey Davis’d the MAC?
@MARYLAND (starts at 24:03) Walt Bell schemed them into a great running game despite 3/5 bad OL, and almost no passing downfield. Great QB names. Some good players though: Carter, Opara, Aniebonam, and those running backs.
@WISCONSIN (starts at 27:14) Losing Cichy is big for them except they seem to produce middle linebackers out of nowhere. The offense isn’t that scary. Going to Madison is.
THE GAME (starts at 30:05) Brian tries to speak French. They’ve got some holes on their offensive line. The guys disagree on Mike Weber. They got Kevin Wilson, their wideouts will be better. “Zone Six!” Their defense…HEY LOOK CLEMSON
The Feels
starts at 38:11
Getting OSU at home is big. Hope the OL holds up just well enough to beat Florida and don’t get hurt against Air Force and it’s not a bad year. Penn State and Wisconsin on the road are the only circles until those guys. Michigan could be an Outback-ish team, or a team like PSU last year that gets to the playoff by upsetting OSU then gets exposed.
